Mary Bowerman
Mary Bowerman is the Network Social Media Editor at USA TODAY Network. She coordinates social media efforts and implements social strategy for projects between USA Today and Gannett’s 109 network properties. She also identifies and writes stories on trending topics for use across the network. Bowerman briefly worked in public relations after attending Clemson University, and began working at USA TODAY in 2014.
Dan Scapusio
Dan Scapusio is the Digital Audience Editor of The Palm Beach Post where he leads a team of web producers whose responsibility include programming our websites and executing our social media strategies. Before that he was the Social Media Manager for the Palm Beach Post. Dan is a graduate of Florida State University and is obsessed with all things Star Wars.
Ariel Zirulnick
Ariel Zirulnick is the director of The New Tropic, a local media startup that seeks to help Miamians connect to, understand, and explore their city. They publish a daily newsletter that reaches 25,000+ curious locals daily, as well as original storytelling, both with a deep focus on audience needs and engagement.
The New Tropic is the flagship publication of WhereBy.Us, which also publishes The Evergrey in Seattle, Pulptown in Orlando, and Bridgeliner in Portland, Ore.
Before joining The New Tropic in 2016, Ariel was a freelance foreign correspondent based in Nairobi, Kenya. She covered East and Central Africa for publications like The Christian Science Monitor, Quartz, the Guardian, the Independent, Foreign Policy, and the Washington Post. Before that, she was the Middle East Editor at The Christian Science Monitor, and also held a hodge-podge of other jobs on the international desk there. She graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a degree in journalism and international studies. Ariel is a member of the current Miami Fellows class.
